Our Commitment to the Environment - Plastic Free Shanklin
In 2018 Sarah founded Plastic Free Shanklin in 2018 for the Plastic Free Town accreditation from Surfers Against Sewage.
With the support from local businesses, residents and Shanklin Town Council the aim is to create awareness of Plastic Pollution and unnecessary waste and ways to avoid our huge impact on the environment. As an industry tourism has a great impact on the environment from washing towels, food waste, misuse of energy and water and lack of knowledge for visitors on recycling. We hope to better the experience of visitors by cleaning our beaches and town on a regular basis and enabling them to do their bit.
As a business Old Shanklin Guest House has always been committed to limiting our impact on the environment. We do this in many ways and there will be a blog coming soon with all of our changes we have made and things we consciously implemented from the beginning.
We ask that visitors do not bring or buy plastic bottles, or at least reuse them. Use bins when you're out and about, especially for cigarette butts and don't leave anything on the beach (including cigarette butts). More information is available in guest rooms.
