Our COVID-19 Policies
We have thought long and hard about our changes and policies amid COVID-19. As we go on we will continue to review what we are doing and how we are doing it. The following is what we have concluded to be the safest option for you, your fellow guests, our family and our fellow Islanders based on the risk assessment of our business. We understand that other businesses may do things differently, but we can only look at our building and our services. All accommodation providers will vary.
We now have a blanket policy of minimum 3 nights to minimise the number of different people coming through the house and having contact with us and other guests.
We will only have 3 rooms available unless there is a group, allowing no more than 3 sittings at breakfast.
The guest lounge will not be available for use for sitting!
Keys will be sanitised in between stays.
Arrival & Departure
We ask that guests arrive at the pre agreed time to minimise traffic in the hallway. If guests are early they are welcome to leave their cars. If they are late we ask that they phone us on the mobile to let us know what time they will arrive.
We are no longer able to store luggage for early arrival or for late departure.
We ask that you sanitise your hands before entering the house.
Only one of us will greet guests on arrival. And sorry, no tea and cake (or cookies) in the lounge on arrival.
If possible we ask that you transfer the balance of your stay either before you arrive or whilst you are here by bank transfer, to enable contactless payment.
Our bank account details are HSBC Gareth James & Sarah James T/A Old Shanklin Guest House
Account 21824430 Sort Code 40 34 26
Check out will now be 10am to enable us to deep clean rooms.
We ask guests to
Wash their hands before they leave their room. Whilst we have sanitisers in public areas we have been advised by public health officials that sanitising is not as good as washing your hands.
Use the sanitisers in place
Bring a sanitiser to use before opening the front door
Bring their own toiletries
Leave a window open when you go out for ventilation
Servicing and cleaning
Rooms will no longer be serviced. We will review this as we go forward.
A fresh bottle of water will be provided at breakfast. Tea, coffee, milk etc and bin bags will be put in the drawer in the bedroom and rotated for each stay. Any unused will be put aside for 72 hours. Any full bins should be tied and left outside the room. Guests will need to notify us of the need to remove them.
Towels will only be changed every 3 days and only on request at breakfast time. Towels should be folded and left outside the room and new towels will be put on beds.
Should we need to go into your room we will wear facemasks and gloves.
Toiletries will still be provided and sanitised between stays. If you would prefer to bring your own please do so.
If you DO NOT want sachets of tea & coffee etc in your room please let us know before arrival.
Soft furnishings have been removed from the rooms, as these cannot be deep cleaned efficiently. Hairdryers, irons and ironing boards are still in the rooms. Your beds and pillows all have protectors under the covers.
We will now be serving the juices, cereals, fruit and preserves from the kitchen.
A larger jug of milk will be put on the tables for cereal and hot drinks
A time will be allocated for your breakfast to stagger the flow of people in the breakfast room. We will ask you at check in and after breakfast each morning.
We will ask you to look at the menu before you come down to breakfast, for quickness of ordering. At the moment we are not asking guests to order the night before. We will endeavour to have the specials for the week on a board in the breakfast room.
The breakfast room windows will be open as much as possible – weather dependent.
When you are out and about around the Island
Please remember your social distancing. We have a large number of older residents, who we love dearly and want to keep safe.
Book ahead your restaurants and activities. We have had to remove all leaflets, so please check online for information.
Many attractions such as Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, the Steam Railway and Mottistone Gardens are taking bookings. Please check their websites, as these could be subject to change.
Use sanitisers whenever sensible to do so, but most of all WASH YOUR HANDS.
If you are going walking or cycling or doing any activities and are not sure if there will be places to eat we are able to provide packed lunches. Our deli menu from It’s About Thyme is also attached. Some items need pre order. We can also do baguettes.
